Availability: Limited

Source: A unique blend of Saccharomyces cultures created in collaboration with Brülosophy.

Bootleg Biology is proud to announce the first official Brülosophy Blend!

The Brülosophy Blend is the only all-purpose, clean yeast culture meant to make almost any beer style*! German Lager? Check! American IPA? Check! English Ale? Check!

Whether you like to make beers that are Short & Shoddy or old-world traditional, The Brü Blend will become your go-to house yeast culture.

Brülosophy’s expert team of Contributors tested this yeast blend in an English Brown Ale, American Porter, Hoppy Blonde, German Pilsner (cold AND warm fermented), and a New England IPA. All test beers were brewed and fermented according to style. Those who participated in the taste tests were only told the style and nothing about the yeast culture used. The results speak for themselves, so stay tuned for the release of the Brülosophy podcast and blog post next week.

The vast majority of tasters rated each beer highly in regards to style representation AND overall enjoyment!

The most common flavor descriptor used for beers made with this blend are clean, lager-like, cracker (malt) and fruity (hops).

* This yeast blend does not produce phenols, and so isn’t recommended for soley fermenting phenolic beers like Saisons, Wits, or Hefeweizens.

Great yeasrt strain here. After reading the versatility of this strain I decided to stock up on the first release. Only used it on a Hazy Pale Ale that turned out fabolous. Bright, tropical, amazing attenuation and a large range of fermentation temps. Definitely a must try for hazy ales.

I used this strain for a Red IPA, the grain bill was RedX, Golden Promise and some crystal 40L. Bittering was from a Hopshot, in the whirlpool and DDH were Columbus, Chinook, Cascade and El Dorado. I used gelatin to clear, therefore I can’t comment on it’s flocculation characteristics. As for flavor/aroma I found that it performed exactly as advertised: super clean with no esters/phenols…it’s as if by magic the wort was transformed into beer. Initially the beer tasted as if each flavor was suspended in the liquid without being homogenous, at least that’s the impression one of my BJCP friends and I had in the first tastings. After more time in the keg I think it has rounded out considerably. I think this strain will be great when trying new hops and malts because of how it allows flavors to shine.

Extremely versatile and clean strain. I have used it for pale ales, primary sour fermentation and Porters with great success. Allows the hops and malt to play center stage. It’s a great attenuator and has been doing fine for me with multiple generations of use. I will definitely be keeping this one around.
